Glympse is a Realtime App That Lets You Find Your Friends

What did Bryan Trussel, founder and CEO of Glympse, a hot new mobile application? The app shares your location with whoever you want for a limited time of your choosing.

Me: What is Glympse all about and how does it work?
Bryan: Glympse is all about making it very simple (and safe!) to use your smartphone to share your location with anyone in the world, at anytime you want.

Me: Who should be excited about Glympse?
Bryan: Anyone who ever coordinates with someone else about their whereabouts. (Parents, Kids, Business People, Spouses…)

Me: How is Glympse innovative or distinct relative to its competitors?
Bryan: We pioneered the concept of time-based location sharing. That is, letting you share your location for a set period of time that you choose. We also don’t force you to be part of a social network. You can send a Glympse to anyone in the world with internet access. They won’t need any special software to see your location. We’re realtime, rich, and simple.

Me: What kind of feedback have you had about Glympse so far?
Bryan: We’re real happy with how well we’ve been received so far. We’re 4.0/5.0 stars with customer reviews on iPhone, and 4.5/5.0 stars on Android, as well as winning an Editor’s Choice Award.  It’s really gratifying to see all the positive comments in the App stores. We are many of the top app lists for 2011. In fact, we just today won “Best Location Sharing App” for the “Best App Ever Awards.” We also get a lot of creative requests for new features from our customers, which we really value. It helps us as we update our app.

Me: Are there any new features or capabilities you envision being rolled out in the near future?
Bryan: Yes! But we really don’t talk about specific stuff ahead of time. (We prefer to just do it!) We will be showing off some cool new features at the Google Android booth in Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. We’ll also be doing a pretty fundamental overhaul of the user experience making it even easier to “share your where.”

Hi, I think it’s addressed in the “How is Glympse innovative or distinct relative to its competitors?” answer:

We pioneered the concept of time-based location sharing. That is, letting you share your location for a set period of time that you choose. We also don’t force you to be part of a social network. You can send a Glympse to anyone in the world with internet access.

Latitude requires both you and the person with whom you’re sharing your location to install Latitude and have a Google account and share credentials. You then also have a semi-permanent location sharing experience with that person.
